All Island Service - Meet the team

Darrin "Dar" Nobbs - Director

Dar started All Island Service Pty Ltd in 1996. Born and raised on remote Norfolk Island he moved to Sydney as a young man to work with scaffolding at Bayswater Power Station, then moved to Lord Howe Island in 1985

Dar worked with the Lord Howe Island Board, and has worked as a park ranger to implement the NSW National Parks and Wildlife strategic plan to protect the environment, and to develop and enhance the Island.   Projects undertaken include road maintenance, mowing, constructing walking trails, eliminating noxious weeds, feral animals and vermin control.

As part of this role he managed beach restoration, sand dune reshaping, tree lopping services and other emergency services such as grave digging.  He was also part of the team that maintained marine infrastructure, jetty and terminal buildings.  For many years he worked as the stevedore managing a twenty-man team that services the bi-monthly boat delivery to Lord Howe Island, also working as required refuelling aircrafts for Qantas Link multiple daily flights.

He trained with the State Emergency Services as a fire captain and is trained to provide emergency responses in the event of cyclones and oil spills.

To be self-employed on Lord Howe Island requires an entrepreneurial mindset and a willingness to participate in all aspects of community life.  Dar began a service designed to manage the community’s septic tank installation and servicing, with a septic pump-out tank and a small excavator whilst also becoming the island’s gas bottle distributor and one of the island’s building maintenance service providers, with ordering, supplying, and fitting a vast range of products.  He was also involved with the development of the island’s marlin fishing sport and started working fishing charters with two boats, the Bell Chase and the Double Trigger.

This experience in remote and challenging locations led to significant growth in qualified training, equipment expertise and business acumen both on and off Lord Howe Island. Over the years his business has been awarded contracts with Air Services, Road, Rail and Infrastructure projects in central & remote parts of Australia that have required well organised and detailed logistics to ensure successful completion.

Jennifer (Jen) Walker was born in rural Northland, New Zealand.

Jen raced cars, worked in mechanic shops, and bar tended in her youth. She then trained in special effects make-up for television and film, which led her into a long and successful career in television and radio media, advertising and marketing the spanned 10 years.   In this time Jen also completed her marketing and event management degrees.

Jen went on to own her own resort on Waiheke Island for 5 years while completing another degree, this time in travel and tourism. She worked as a contractor with New Zealand Politics managing campaign events for members of parliament for 6 years.
